Privacy policy

Effective 2026-10-02. Amazon Barcode Scanner provides this independent app, which is not affiliated with Amazon. Contact support@amazonbarcodescanner.com for privacy requests.

Accounts and purchases

Clerk processes account identifiers and verified sign-in information. Your chosen sign-in provider also processes authentication. Apple processes subscriptions; we do not receive your card or bank details. We retain verified purchase, usage and request records to associate subscriptions and enforce allowances.

Scanning and photos

Barcode decoding happens on your device. Barcode lookup sends the necessary identifier or search terms, not a camera frame, to our backend and product-data providers. Supported FNSKU conversion uses FNSKUtoASIN. Explicit photo identification sends one processed still through SearchApi, which may receive a short-lived image URL. You confirm a candidate before its product lookup. Saving an inventory photo does not run recognition.

Inventory and storage

Saved names, notes, quantities, product identifiers and compressed photos belong to your account. Cloudflare stores them privately. Offline edits stay on your device. Disposable local caches target 500 synced items and 100 MiB of photos; unsynced edits and files in use are protected.

Retention

Raw private barcode values remain only for the active operation. Product identity caches expire after twelve hours; offer freshness is one hour. Recognition images are removed after processing settles, with cleanup scheduled every five minutes and a one-day temporary-storage backstop. Failed cleanup can take longer. Inventory remains until you remove it or delete your account. Minimal deletion markers prevent old offline edits from restoring deleted items. Expired operation records are cleaned up; financial totals are preserved. Purchase-event deduplication and unreferenced expired purchase periods have ninety-day retention windows.

Deletion and control

Use Settings → Account → Delete account to request deletion. The app blocks new activity and removes inventory, photos and the authentication profile through retryable cleanup. Minimal keyed identity aliases, consumed free allowance and store-association records remain to prevent deletion/recreation resetting usage; they contain no inventory notes or photos. Sign-out preserves unsynced edits. Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage it through Apple. Contact support@amazonbarcodescanner.com for data requests.

Support correspondence

When you email us or send an in-app support message, we store your address and message in a private support mailbox on Cloudflare. Email may include accepted attachments; the in-app form sends text only. In-app tickets also retain a compact account-linked receipt to prevent duplicate submissions and limit abuse. Only authorized operators can access correspondence. We use it to answer your request and retain its history; messages moved to Trash are removed after thirty days by bounded daily cleanup, followed by empty threads and their ticket receipts. We do not keep a separate raw-email archive. Contact us to request removal of support correspondence; deleting your app account does not automatically delete support messages.

Third parties

The app uses Clerk, Cloudflare, Apple, SearchApi and FNSKUtoASIN for the functions described above. These providers may process service, security and network information under their own terms. The retention periods above describe our systems, not a promise about every provider's retention. We do not operate an advertising or tracking-analytics service, collect automatic scan history, or keep permanent raw provider-response archives. Optional photo matching is initiated by you.
